- 1 ½ cups sliced mushrooms button or cremini
- 4 slices of thick bread sourdough or rye recommended
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter for grilling
- 1 tablespoon olive oil for mushrooms
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of black pepper
Cook the mushrooms: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms, garlic powder, and black pepper. Sauté until golden brown.
Prep the bread: Butter one side of each bread slice. Sprinkle lightly with more garlic powder for an extra flavor kick.
Assemble the melt: Layer Swiss cheese and cooked mushrooms between the bread slices, buttered sides facing out.
Grill: Heat the skillet over medium heat. Cook sandwiches for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden and cheese melts.
Serve: Slice in half and enjoy hot with optional dipping sauces.
