- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup breadcrumbs optional for baking
- 1 tablespoon olive oil optional for breadcrumbs
Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk until smooth.
Gradually pour in milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until thickened (about 5 minutes).
Stir in cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Keep stirring until cheese melts.
Add cooked macaroni to the sauce and mix until evenly coated.
For a baked version, transfer to a greased baking dish, top with breadcrumbs mixed in olive oil, and bake at 375°F for 15 minutes.
Serve hot and enjoy the cheesy goodness.
