Instructions
Cook the pasta: Boil penne in salted water until al dente. Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain.
Sauté aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking until fragrant.
Add vodka: Pour in vodka and let it simmer for a minute to cook off the alcohol.
Stir in tomatoes: Mix in crushed tomatoes and let it cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Make it creamy: Reduce heat and add heavy cream, stirring until fully combined.
Finish the sauce: Toss in butter, Parmesan, and reserved pasta water. Stir until smooth.
Coat the pasta: Add cooked penne and mix until coated in sauce.
Garnish and serve: Sprinkle fresh basil and extra Parmesan on top.
