  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions
 

  • Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente (about 7 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth and cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually pour in the milk and cream while whisking. Stir constantly until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  • Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well.
  • Remove from heat and mix in cheddar and Parmesan cheeses until fully melted and creamy.
  • Toss the cooked macaroni in the cheese sauce until evenly coated.
  • Serve hot with a sprinkle of extra cheese, if desired.
